The process side of the exchanger shows all areas including the baffle
with excessive material loss.
A ruptured exchanger tube was discovered after a hydro test.
It appears the tube failed due to thinning of the tube wall.
Shell-side inspections with remote video tools such as videoscopes are used to verify the
condition of the tubes and shell and the extent of shell-side fouling in an exchanger.
Shell-side corrosion and fouling can be identified and evaluated using remote video camera
systems such as small-diameter, articulating videoscopes.
Exchanger Tube Bacterial Corrosion
This bacterial corrosion was caused by an ineffective cooling water treatment program.A
videoscope was used to determine the extent of the corrosion throughout the facility.
Non-contact measurement software was used to quantify the pitting.
Exchanger Tube Pitting
Video scopes are excellent tools for determining the internal conditions of exchanger tubes.
Techniques such as eddy current only supply numbers for supposed wall loss. Remote video
can differentiate conditions such as fouling, scale, corrosion, and pitting before using
software to accurately measure features.
